Diving – North Seymour Island

Mosquera or Daphne
North Seymour is an island of volcanic origin located north of the island of Baltra, its sandy surroundings make it ideal for scuba diving, even for the inexperienced. You will be able to see starfish, coral fish, sea turtles, lions
sharks, blacktip sharks, whitetip sharks, and many other creatures
marine.
Mosquera is an islet located between North Seymour and South Seymour, with a bottom sandy, a 7-meter bay, and a 35-meter deep ravine,
Mosquera is ideal for all levels. Here you can make your first dive and
enjoy a unique experience in the heart of the Galapagos.
Daphne’s dive sites are suitable for both beginners and experienced divers. One of them includes a small cave of about 6 meters deep where you can find white-tip sharks and turtles marine.
During the excursion, you will also be able to see beautiful and colorful fish and the giant manta ray at greater depths.

  Places to Visit:

  • Wetlands: The Wetlands of Isabela Island are located just outside of Puerto Villamil. The Wetlands consist of lagoons, swamps, and mangroves and are home to a variety of unique bird species such as common stilts, whimbrels, white-cheeked pintails, and gallinules. The Wetlands can be visited on foot via a path that winds through the swamps.
  • Flamingo Lake: To the west of Puerto Villamil there are various salt and brackish lagoons that house an impressive variety of coastal and sea birds. Here, visitors can also find the largest concentration of flamingos in the Galapagos.
  • Arnaldo Tupiza Breeding Center: The Tortoise Breeding Center (also known as the Interpretation Center) is located nearby Puerto Villamil. A boardwalk connects the town to the Center, stretching across the wetlands and Prickly Pear Cacti shrub. Five sub-species of the Giant Tortoise exist on the island, yet their populations are threatened by introduced animals such as goats and cats. At the Tortoise Breeding Center, eggs are nursed in a hatchery and the giant tortoise adults are observed in supervised corrals. The Center aims to increase the population and secure the survival of these species.
  • Tintoreras: The Tintoreras Islets, located a short distance from Puerto Villamil, are home to a great variety of wildlife. Its turquoise, crystalline waters are inhabited by white-tipped reef sharks, Galapagos penguins, marine turtles, and sea lions. One of its beaches, surrounded by mangroves is one of the few sites where marine iguanas can reproduce successfully.

Places to Visit:

• Bartolome Island:Named in honor of Sir Bartholomew Sulivan of the British Navy. It has an area of ​​1.2 km² and a maximum altitude of 114 meters. This island offers some of the most beautiful landscapes of the archipelago. The island is composed of an extinct volcano and a variety of red, orange, green and bright black volcanic formations. The lava cactus of the Galapagos colonize the new lava fields. On this island is the famous Pinnacle, which is one of the most representative places of the archipelago. Here you can dive and snorkel with penguins, sea lions, white-tip reef sharks, and other tropical fish. Seasonally, Bartolomé is the mating and nesting site of the green turtle. The bay is also an excellent place to go swimming. The twin bays are separated by a narrow isthmus.

Places to Visit:

• Tijeretas Hill: A trail built with cut stone, which crosses a forest that leads to observation points of the fascinating coastal landscape and the native flora and fauna. This trail culminates in a cove of calm waters, where you can practice water sports and observe nature.

• Mann Beach: Mann Beach is of little slope and of white and soft sand, it is ideal to take the sun and to bathe. It has masterful landscapes, its main attraction being the beach. It is a small rocky beach that on weekends is packed by people. It is quite rocky and you will usually observe the lions, it is a beautiful beach for swimming and sunbathing.

• Punta Carola: The beach has an area of approximately 300 meters, which is made up of dry forest vegetation. On the beach, there is a large colony of sea lions among the vegetation and marine iguanas are present on the rocks. On this site you can practice surfing.

San Cristobal Island Diving

• Details:Kicker Rock is known as one of the best dive sites in the archipelago to expect a school of salema fishes, hammerhead sharks, Galápagos sharks, turtles, eagle rays, golden rays and sea lions. The outside wall of the rock goes 60m/200ft straight to the bottom – good buoyancy control for divers is a must. Currents are mild to moderate. The second dive goes through the dramatic channel cutting through the rock between towering walls. The divers to go up from 20m/60ft to 15-13m/40ft. The dives ends on the other side of the channel.Depending on the date you’d like to book the tour, the operator offers 2 dives/2 times snorkeling in combination with a visit of different beaches:

Places to Visit:

• Sleeping Lion: It consists of two vertical walls with a channel in the center that offers a paradise for sharks and other species of fish, such as barracudas and rainbow fish. The walls are strikingly colored almost certainly will have sightings of great marine wildlife, including octopi and many sharks like: hammerhead shark, white-fin reef shark and freshwater turtle sharks. Other marine creatures that are found are turtles, rays and sea lions.

• Brujo Hill: The main attraction is the coral sand beach as well as a variety of flora and fauna species. It is an eroded tuff cone, which in some of its parts, is composed of lava. The citizens of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno used to extract salt to preserve cod fish, meat from their farms, and tortoise meat. This is a place to observe marine birds. Brujo Hill offers an excellent landscape from which you may see León Dormido, the south of the highest part of San Cristobal, and the adjacent coast. Two halophyte species grow here in soils rich in salt.

• Sardina Bay: It’s characterized for being a place for fishing of several species such as sardines, liza, octopus, lobster, shrimp, among others. Bahía Sardina includes two beaches whose attractions are its small white sand dunes together with its crystalline waters suitable for snorkeling, taking into account that in this bay there is a large presence of sea turtles, rays and sea lions.

• Punta Pitt: This is the only site in the Galapagos Islands, where you can watch the three species of boobies and two species of frigates nesting in the same area. The reason that there are three species of boobies at Punta Pitt is due to the geographic location: there is enough food so there is no competition between them. The blue-footed boobies nest in the interior (rarely on the cliffs), red-footed boobies nest on bushes and masked boobies nest along the cliffs. Another added attraction is the presence of sea lions at the landing point, in the bay.

• Rosa Blanca Bay: It’s a small bay located northeast of San Cristóbal Island. It has several small beaches, but its main attraction is the large beach located in the center of the small bay where there is a large number of dunes. added to its crystal clear waters generate an attractive landscape unique to the area. The entire bay of Rosa Blanca and its lowlands is an ideal area for fishing of wahoo, palometa, ojón, liza, cod. Additionally, there are shark, ray and sea turtle species that are the ideal complement for snorkeling activities.
